This interdependence of moms has another effect on moms’ social circles. While pre-existing social circles contract, young parents and especially first time moms develop a new circle of friends through mothers groups, toddler groups and other support groups whose members share similar circumstances. This new support network is crucial at this time.
The time taken up with these new networks, often mean that new moms have less time to spend with their oldest friends. The net result is not quite a greater circle of friends, but rather an evolving make-up within her circle. This evolution in moms active circle of friends continues as children start school, further opening up new relationships for moms.
